PAST CONCERTS

Our most recent concert 'Serenade' was an enjoyable and well-attended event in All Saint's Church, Thurlestone.  We were joined by Alastair Durden playing several organ solos and also persuaded Harriet Oakley to sing - a glorious performance of 'Sleep' by Ivor Gurney.  Sadly, however, this was our last performance with Harriet as our Musical Director, as she departs for new, more manageable projects - we have loved working with her over the past few years, and she will be much missed!

We sing every year at Christmas in St. Edmund's Church, Kingsbridge, enjoying a variety of traditional choral music to celebrate the season along with Christmas carols for choir and audience to sing - and followed by mulled wine and light refreshments.

In November 2025, the choir sang to a sold-out audience in Buckfast Abbey, joined by professional soloists and The Divertimento String Quartet.  The programme included a moving performance of Faure's 'Requiem' along with a selection from Parry's 'Songs of Farwell' - a memorable evening!

                                                             Buckfast Abbey Concert Pposter 2025

Our joyful celebration concert for The Alvington Singers 40th Anniversary was held in May 2025 in St. Thomas' Church, Dodbrooke, Kingsbridge.  The concert programme reflected some of the music the choir have sung over the years, and the audience joined us for a champagne buffet in the Church Hall afterwards - whilst also enjoying the display of choir memorabilia that has been collected over the decades.  A memorable evening in the May sunshine!

In 2024, the choir again sang in Buckfast Abbey where the programme included a well-received performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' 'Towards the Unknown Region' along with an eclectic range of music ranging from Purcell and Victoria to Casals, Gjeilo and Stroope.

Our first concert at Buckfast Abbey with Harriet Oakley as our Musical Director was in June 2023.  The choir embraced a challenging programme of music linked by the theme of faith and affirmations of life, and especially enjoyed the title piece of the programme 'Hope, Faith, Life, Love' by Eric Whitacre.

The choir sing regularly at various venues in the Kingsbridge and wider South Hams area - we enjoyed a smaller, informal concert at the South Hams Christian Fellowship Chapel in Kingsbridge in March 2023, with Harriet Oakley. This was followed by light refreshments shared with our supportive and appreciative audience.

Working with Matthew Searles as our Musical Director, then Assistant Master of the Music at Buckfast Abbey, we enjoyed another performance in 2022.

The Alvington Singers were formed in 1985, and there have of course been many musical highlights over the decades.
