Musical Director

OUR CURRENT MUSICAL DIRECTOR IS  ROBIN STUBBS (B.Mus, FTCL, FGMS).

Robin brings decades of musical experience to our choir, and alongside his busy teaching schedule he currently also works with The Plymouth University Choral Society and as the Director of Music at St. Andrew’s Church in Ashburton.

Robin began his musical career as an organ scholar at Chester Cathedral, and later studied at the Royal Northern College of Music.  Whilst in Manchester, Robin was a staff member at Manchester Cathedral and organist to the Huddersfield Choral Society, and after moving to South Wales he became Assistant Organist at St. Woolos Cathedral. He also continued his studies in London, working with professional choirs and making several recordings and broadcasts.

In 2001 Robin moved to Jersey to take up the post of Director of Music at the Pro Cathedral and Director of Vocal Music at Victoria College.  In 2008 he moved back to the UK mainland to take up the post as Director of Music at Plymouth College Prep School and for 12 years he also directed one of the most formidable church choirs in  Cornwall - St Mary’s Choir Launceston.

Over the past 30 years Robin has taught all ages, in both the state and private sectors.  Currently, he teaches music and RE at Plymouth College and he has also worked extensively with The Britannia Choral Society in Dartmouth.  He regularly leads choral workshops across Devon and Cornwall in addition to his involvement in the annual Dartmouth Music Festival.

The Alvington Singers are delighted to welcome Robin to the choir, and we look forward to working with him on exciting plans for the future as he takes us on the next stage of our musical journey.
